Boredom

from Wikipedia.org

Boredom, or ennui (pronounced "on-we," this French word comes from Old French enui, root of the English word 'annoy') is a reactive state to wearingly dull, repetitive, or tedious stimuli: suffering from a lack of interesting things to see, hear, etc., or do (physically or intellectually), while not in the mood of "doing nothing". Those afflicted by temporary boredom may regard the affliction as a waste of time, but usually characterise boredom worse than just that. Alternatively one may have the feeling that having too much spare time causes boredom. Indeed, time often appears to move more slowly to someone suffering from boredom. This results from the way in which the human mind measures the passage of time, by the frequency of notable events, the absence of which may cause the feeling of boredom. Boredom can also occur as a symptom of clinical depression.

Boredom may also lead to impulsive (and sometimes excessive) actions, that serve no purpose and may damage one's self-interest. For example, studies in behavioral finance have shown that stock traders can enter into "overtrading" (buying or selling even without any objective reason to do so) simply because they feel bored when they have nothing worth doing. Usingrecreational drugs provides another example of the possible perils of boredom.

I guess I just felt like going out, but financial constraint kind of prevented me to do so...so I gotta stay at home...coincidentally watching THE show about nothing (Seinfeld season 3 that is) and playing WE8 all by myself or reading Dan Brown's Deception Point in which I got from DY. I was already disappointed by Digital Fortress which was really thin in character and the story depth. At least Deception Point still has the praises from the critiques at the back unlike Digital Fortress which has the praises of Da Vinci Code at the back. It kind of gives a hint about what's inside huh...

LISTENING TO: Mr. Big - Goin Where the Wind Blows (Nostalgic mode)

NEW DOWNLOADS:

Ben Folds - Song for Silverman (full album)

I haven't got a chance to listen to all of the tracks but the first impression is pretty good..not as catchy as when they were Ben Folds Five but still enjoyable listening to their style of piano-based music

The Thrills - Let's Bottle Bohemia (full album)

After their very successful debut album, it didn't take too long for the Thrills to release a 2nd one (Sept 2004). Their sound kind of changed a little bit compared to the first album, the Irish sound that they used to have is now missing.. The overall sound is now more generic than the previous album, which I think is a setback. There's no more sing-along track like Santa Cruz or Your Love is Like Las Vegas. Only Not All the Love in the World can come close. I like the way they started the album though, with a distorted guitar riff...in most songs people will probably continue with scream and high tempo music, but not The Thrills, they use it as the opening for their midtempo song (Tell Me Something I Don't Know) which sets the tone for the whole album. It's not always easy to follow-up from the smashing debut album... In The Thrills case they did ok.
